The Director of Students’ Affairs at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Dr. Kolawole Amos, has affirmed that the Students Union Electoral Committee (SUELECO) and the Students Representatives Council (SRC) elections will be held on Thursday, May 9th, and Friday, May 10th, respectively.
He made this affirmation during a meeting with Press Club reporters and SRC aspirants at one of the buildings in the Institution’s School of Business Management and Studies (SBMS).
According to the DSA, the election will be held without fail.
However, he mentioned that the election will hold on Thursday and Friday, if there are any technical glitches on these days, the elections will be rescheduled to Monday and Tuesday of the following week.
He said, “The essence of this meeting is to discuss the issue regarding the election delay and plan ahead for the upcoming election.
“At our last meeting, we proposed that HND1 candidates use their ND results. However, ND candidates who did not have their results ready should be elected through a by-election.
“We received a petition to allow those without their results to run against the constitution, which requires a specific CGPA for candidates contesting certain positions. Unfortunately, their results did not meet the required standards, leading to the delay and disruption of the election process, and consequently, the postponement of the academic calendar.”
The DSA further explained that the management will take adequate measures to authenticate the results of every candidate from their respective Heads of Department (HODs) to facilitate the election process and ensure that the election is conducted before examinations.
He also added that the management is prepared to allow an additional week for the election and aims to hold it either this Thursday and Friday or the following Monday and Tuesday.
“We will verify the CGPA of all candidates to determine their eligibility and ensure that the election takes place before the exams.”
