The Former Speaker of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Femi Owoeye popularly known as MVP on Tuesday made a controversial statement during the manifesto causing an uproar among students and aspirants alike.
The Manifesto and Presidential Debate was organized by Press Club MAPOLY in conjunction with the Students Union Electoral Committee (SUELECO) at the Otungba Gbenga Daniel Hall.
Owoeye who was asked to give a speech about the status of SUG on campus and the election coming, during the tail end of his speech, mentioned the political name of a presidential aspirant: Babs in an allegedly campaign-like manner.
This statement caused furore among the students present who were agitated at such statement coming from him.
Shortly after that, one of the aspirants vying for the post of Welfare Director, Oluwagbemi Samuel known as Big Sam stepped down from the election, citing the policy of not giving all students the right to vote as his basis.
He said, “The election should be a one-man vote. On that point I stand and I am making my point that if the election is not conducted democratically and it is going to go the way the school has prepared it to go, then I am stepping down honourably from this process.”
Big Sam’s withdrawal heightened the uproar in the room initiated by Owoeye, resulting in the disorganization of the manifesto.
However, peace was later restored by the Director of Students Affairs, Dr. Olusegun Aniyika with the help of the security personnel of the school.
The Presidential Debate later held with Babatunde AbdGaniu Adeola also known as Babs the only presidential candidate present to field questions from the organizers.
Adeleke Bukola Blessing who is vying for the post of the Vice-President was also absent during the session slated for her.
The Director of students’ Affairs name is “OLUSEGUN ANINKAN”
