The Microbiology Learning Forum, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, an academic forum for Microbiology students has joined the rest of the world on Wednesday, to celebrate the World Malaria day.
The event which was held in commemoration of the third anniversary of the Forum, led to distribution of free malaria test to students, demonstrations on detection of malaria through the use of rapid test, education on malaria prevention, symptoms and presentation of gifts to outstanding members.
The founder of the forum, Mr Oyelami O. Isaac, while speaking with PCM, revealed that the forum which started as a group page on facebook with over two hundred members in February 10, 2014, having the name “Microbiology Learning Forum by Oyelami” later metamorphosed into an academic learning forum in the department of Microbiology.
He stated further that the forum was established to help its members achieve academic excellence, adding that it engages members with practical aspects of their course of study and sensitize the public on diseases, prevention and control.
“For the past three years, we have been able to engage over one hundred members annually on practical related to microbiology and biology related field, conduct research and embarked on industrial visitation to enable them get acquainted with equipment used in the field” he said.
Speaking further, Oyelami said the forum has won international recognition from microbiologists in countries like India, USA, Benin Republic, Egypt, Pakistan, among others and has also produced members who are in various leadership positions.
“During the 2015/2016 session two of our members graduated with distinction and one of them emerged as the best graduating students of the department. We have members graduating with upper through our tutorial class and we have been able to promote this citadel of learning”, he stated.
The pioneer founder, went further to explain that steps were being taken to get its registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), explaining that they plan to make it a recognized organization across higher institution in the country.
Present at the event were, Mr Daniel Robert (Department laboratory technologist), Mr Olumide Felix (Fmr. PRO of the forum), Honourable Durodola Shayo (SRC Speaker), Comrade Lawal Aderewa (NAOSS President) among others.
